Things to do in Hull

Hull is the traditionally significant city located in the heart of East Yorkshire. Only slightly inland from the banks of the North Sea, this fascinating northern city has been influential to some of the key developments in the history of the UK.

Hull’s culture and attractions are heavily orientated around the fascinating history that it has undergone. The city is littered with a host of museums dedicated to the displays of ancient wartime tools and battleground relics. Two, in particular to mention, are; the deep – located just off the marina, this is the only underwater aquarium in the world, and, The East Riding Museum – which exhibits the worlds oldest logboat, as well as several other pre-historic artefacts.

However, for those of you who aren’t totally entertained by the journey back in time, there are a host of other attractions to keep you occupied in time out and about. September is the month to visit, if you are a hardy musician. This is where the city hosts the annual Jazz Festival, only a short walk from the marina.

Continuing in its different nature, unsurprisingly Hull possesses a few famous quirks that have become entwined with the make of the city. Cream telephone boxes are abundant in the streets, in contrast to the normal red, and Hull also provided the backdrop to the abolition of slavery in the United Kingdom, in 1833.

A remarkable place to either live or visit, Hull combines the nostalgia of its vital historical past, with a newfound modernity that is exciting to a new generation. Positioned in the heart of the north with great travel links, this is a city no one should miss out on.
